This
website is dedicated to the numerous parents with whom I had contact through my
past work in home education (known as homeschooling in the USA), especially
those who spoke despairingly of having a child with dyslexia or with dyslexic
type problems, plainly not thriving in school. Invariably they had made heroic
efforts, often over the course of many years, to find a solution through the
conventional avenues, but without a satisfactory outcome.
I've endeavoured to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date guide to teaching
dyslexic children at home. The site includes plenty of practical advice, useful
I believe, not just for the parents of dyslexic children but for any parent
whose children, schooled or otherwise, need help with the basics of the three Rs;
reading, writing and arithmetic.
The content is simply the knowledge that I wish I'd had myself, at 'my
fingertips' ten years ago, when I first realised that my youngest son was
dyslexic.
I am aware that the section on teaching reading is likely to appear
'challenging' to many parents and teachers. My intention was not to produce a
polemic but simply to provide parents with the complete, accurate and reliable
information to which they are entitled, unclouded for once by political
correctness.
