The
Secret Life of the Dyslexic Child Robert
Frank Ph.D., with Kathryn E Livingston Dyslexia is a complex disability endured by a third of children in the UK – with no two children affected alike. But it need not be a barrier to success, as the above list of high achievers (representing just a handful of famous people known to have dyslexia) shows. Until we understand what it is like to see the world through a dyslexic child’s eyes, it is very hard to know how best to help the child cope with and manage his or her dyslexia. The Secret Life of the Dyslexic Child bridges this information gap. Author Dr Frank, an educational psychologist and family therapist, is himself dyslexic and thus able to give a unique insight into the frustrations and fears of dyslexic children as well as propose strategies for managing the condition and achieving success. Dr Frank’s observations and programme are based on years of working with children and families dealing with behavioural and learning problems. He explains that dyslexia is more than just a reading problem and that, in fact, many of the methods now used by parents and teachers may be making matters worse by reinforcing the child’s fears and frustrations. The Secret Life of the Dyslexic Child is divided into 4 accessible sections:
The Secret Life of the Dyslexic Child will enable readers to appreciate the emotional struggles the dyslexic child faces, help dyslexic children discover their own strengths and encourage all dyslexics to develop greater self-esteem and to aim high. "This is an excellent book for both parent and teacher alike. I found it read well and flows easily and really puts you into "their world" (the dyslexic child). It gives you practical examples of situations which cause real problems for dyslexics, and will give you a new perspective on what it must feel like to live in this "secret worl" Highly recommend this book" If you get it and read it, please email me your thoughts" . It starts off "lots of people have been written for Teachers and your Mums and Dads, so I thought it was high time you had one all to yourselves. It explains how they feel, the problems they might experience and that they are not alone. A great book, highly recommended. How did we try and explain this to our young children before this book came along!

Reviewer: Karen Fox The book, Reading David, by Lissa Weinstein
helped me deal with my own son's struggle with dyslexia. Lissa and David touch
the emotions of both mother and child through the unique, overwhelming journey
of dyslexia. The reader experiences the triumphs and struggles of everyday
living. This book taught me that my son is a very bright, unique individual who
desires to fit in. I felt someone was feeling what I was feeling and that it was
okay to be angry one day and joyful the next because living with dyslexia is
such an up and down rollercoaster. ================================================================================= Why Some of the Brightest People Can't Read and
